When many "big company" baits are showing increasingly poorer workmanship, a tendency for "hanging up" on a cast, and a trend toward more and more hair, Chuck Smalley, the manufacturer, is meticulously hand tying his bucktails.

Every year an uncountable number of muskies are caught on SKIMMER bucktails, with many being of trophy caliber.

• Sunny - All black hair with brass blade or brown hair with brass or orange.
• Sunny with many non-biting following fish - Red with black stripped hair with copper blade.
• Sunny-Cloudy - Black over yellow hair with brass blade.
• Overcast- Yellow over black hair with copper blade or crappie gray and white with nickel blade.
• Nasty stormy weather - Yellow with 3 black bars and tarnished brass blade.

SKIMMER Bucktail

• Straight. .045 steel wire for strength
• Off-center eye and shaft alleviate dog tracking
• Rear keel balances lure: - Less tumble on cast - Lets lure stay at depth desired for retrieve
• Colorado blade, deep cup, provides great lift: - At moderate to fast paced retrieve bucktail will stay within 18 inches of surface.
• Keeps bucktail above the weeds resulting in better location for presentation to muskies/northerns.
• Blade produces solid surface bulge with lure is retrieved just under the surface.
• 2/0 Mustad round bend treble in middle of bucktail:
• Shank is bent to allow treble to lay more in line with the bucktail
• Bend at shank also increases hookup percentage.
• 3/0 Mustad round bend treble at rear of bucktail
• 13 gauge thread that holds hair to hollow body is preglued before being spun on. This keeps the hair from falling out or being easily pulled out.
• The nose section of bucktail hair is epoxied over. Even if the blade did touch this area the blade could not cut through the thread that hold it all together. Because this is an epoxied area the epoxy also protects the thread from the musky or northern teeth.
