Russ spends 50 days a year
guiding muskie and bass fishermen on his favorite waters of Wisconsin's
Vilas, Oneida and Iron Counties. As an angler he has traveled extensively
in North America - specializing in fishing the waters of the North, from
the Northwest Territories to Northern Wisconsin. This "time on the
water" experience keeps his FHS writing informative and up-to-date with
the latest trends and techniques.
His background includes educator,
writer, editor, public speaker, radio host and tournament bass and muskie
angler. Previously, he was the outdoor and environmental editor of
the New-Sun newspaper (Waukegan, IL) and editor of a weekly Northern Wisconsin
newspaper. Also, he hosted a weekly call-in radio program on fishing
and hunting topics. As a special hobby, Warye studies his favorite
fish species - the legendary muskie, including research on the best waters
of North America.
Periodical credits include
Bassmaster, Outdoor Life, Boys Life, Wisconsin Sportsman, Midwest Outdoors,
Aqua-Field Publications, and others.
He is an avowed activist
in fishing and environmental issues, including the new ethic of catch and
release, trophy fishing, acid deposition problems, and water quality controversies.
Additionally, Warye has served on various DNR ad-hoc citizen committees
including Chippewa Treaty groups, fishing ethics, and resource management
needs. |
