This is how the ice out went here in Northern Illinois on Shabbona lake this year. Just thought y'all might see how fast it can go.
March 16th.... 12" ice. Guys ice fishing catching crappie.
March 21st....95% of lake still iced up, but not safe ice. Ice pulling away from shore.
March 25th...40% of lake OPEN WATER. Bays open, and original creek channel open. Geese and gulls present.
March 27...100% OPEN WATER Boats out.
We did not have a 60 degree day during that stetch. Lots of 50's, a few nights when it did not freeze, a few days of nice sun, and some wind and rain.
That is kind of a casual observation of how it went here, by no mean scientific yet relatively accurate. So, my Northern friends...hold hope. I hope warm weather gets there fast and all the ice goes away, and y'all can do what you enjoy doing so much !
What sucks is...it might snow here this weekend. Uffda. I think I'll go to Kansas.
